Frequently Asked Questions

What is tallow lip balm, and is beef tallow good for your lips?
Tallow lip balm is a lip treatment made with rendered grass-fed beef fat. Tallow is rich in fatty acids and vitamins A, D, E, and K that closely mirror the oils your own skin produces, so it absorbs easily and feels nourishing rather than heavy. Our balm pairs grass-fed tallow with jojoba oil, beeswax, elderberry, and vitamin E to soften, condition, and help lock moisture into delicate lip skin.
Does the Tallow Lip Balm smell or taste like beef?
No. Two things keep any beefy note out. First, our rendering process. The tallow is slow-rendered at moderate temperatures and circulated through fine filters roughly 30 times during production, which clarifies and purifies the fat while preserving its beneficial fatty acids. We never use hydrogenation or extreme high-heat methods that can damage the fat and leave an off smell. Second, we blend in natural vanilla and botanical oils. Customers describe the result as a light, pleasant vanilla, sometimes with a soft citrus or creamsicle note. The scent is subtle once applied, and it is lightly scented for your nose, not flavored for your tongue, so enjoy the aroma rather than tasting it.
Is tallow lip balm safe, even if I swallow a little?
Yes. Because lip balm is something you inevitably ingest in small amounts, we keep the formula to simple, clean, skin-compatible ingredients: grass-fed beef tallow, jojoba oil, beeswax, elderberry, vitamin E, and vanilla. There are no synthetic fragrances, dyes, or harsh chemicals. It is also dermatologist tested, hypoallergenic, and made in the USA.
Is the Tallow Lip Balm vegan?
No. It is made with grass-fed beef tallow and beeswax, both animal derived, so it is not vegan. We chose tallow on purpose, because its fatty-acid profile closely matches the lips' own oils, which is what makes it absorb so well. Our tallow comes from non-GMO, grass-fed, pasture- raised cattle.
Will this help with very dry, chapped lips?
It is made for exactly that. The rich tallow and beeswax base coats and softens dry, chapped lips on contact and helps seal in moisture, so lips feel noticeably smoother and more comfortable. It works well for everyday use and as an overnight lip treatment, and many customers apply it before bed and wake up to softer-feeling lips.
How do I use it, and how often should I reapply?
Swipe a thin layer across clean lips whenever they feel dry or tight. A little goes a long way, so one or two passes is usually plenty. Because the tallow base is concentrated, many customers find it stays comfortable longer than a typical wax chapstick and needs less frequent reapplication. Reapply as often as you like through the day, and use it as a nourishing layer before bed or over a hydrating serum to help lock everything in.
Why does my balm feel soft, and how should I store it?
Because we use real tallow and botanical oils instead of heavy synthetic waxes and stabilizers, the balm is naturally soft and can melt in high heat, like a hot car or direct summer sun. That softness is a sign of a clean, minimal formula. Store it at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, and if it ever softens, a short time in a cool spot brings it right back with no effect on quality.
